I love using textures.

Carefully selected leaves, fabrics are pressed onto wet clay, sometimes using the rolling pin.

The leaf will leave wonderfull detail in the clay. The finer the clay, the more detail it will show, including tiny leaf veins, threds on the fabric etc.

Once the piece had it’s first firing, might use underglaze to enhance the texture. It’s an amazingly simple technique which always gives great result. The underglaze will fill the texture and the rest is sponged off.

Sometimes, particulary with porcelain, I’d only use clear glaze, so the texture is less visable, but can be felt with the fingers.
